Episode 332 – We Write Your Soundtrack with Chadwick Ginther

Chadwick Ginther, author of the Thunder Road Trilogy as well as Graveyard Mind and a host of short stories is back to continue the discussion on Soundtracks!

(1:04) We watch a video for Two Minutes Late Night’s Bedroom Cover of Two Minutes to Late Night Transformers.

(4:36) We discuss the Soundtracks to Rocksteady’s Vice City; (7:48) designing Board Games; (12:28) and a variety of Game Systems we have played (and finding one to run based on my current Work In Progress).

(26:58) Which soundtracks do we use when writing and/or running tabletop games? How do we evoke the right mood and which ones do we run to when we need that right creative spark? We run through the many we use with notables Conan, Lord of The Rings, anything by Hans Zimmer, and synth and dark wave.

(38:05) We talk World of Warcraft and sound in their games, as well as other video games and their music and sounds. (41:40) Ever play I maede a gam3 w1th z0mb1es in it? Not only a true at heart Indie game, the music (written and performed by it’s creator) was killer and was showcased on streaming services and was even downloadable on Rockband. We also talk the genius of Robert Rodrigues, the score for Diablo, Evil Dead, Lost Boys, and how Ferris Bueller’s Day Off brought us Yello.

(48:11) Was Chadwick in the original Superman movie? And how about that soundtrack? How does Superman play against the Star Wars score? (52:54) We end on the greatness of Sam Raimi and Danny Elfman.

Hi, I am Sean "SeanGeek" McGinity. And I am a geek. For me, the definition of the word geek comes from liking something so much, that I deep dive into it. Not just consuming it... but becoming it. I "geek out". Everything started with comics. I read them and studied them with a fine eye, and then started making my own. Since then, I have "geeked out" on movies (Star Wars The Evil WIthin, Hurt), music writing, recording, and performing (The Classic Embers and Dome), writing (the Symka comic and the upcoming Intuitives novel), and now... this Podcast.

Hey guys, SeanGeek here. Just to be clear, this is me geeking out on Todd "FastFretFingers" McGinity here. Todd is the GOAT. My brother is an established musician, mastering the Fretboard with a blistering discipline. If there was a guitar style, tone, pitch... Todd would find a way to replicate it. From his early days mastering Van Halen and Rush, his musical palate has expanded with forays into classical and flamenco, hard rock, blues and pop. From live performances to learning the recording process, when it comes to music, he has done it all.

A lover of stories, beer, and cats, and a master of none. Catch me talking to Geek Boy every so often for the latest comic book TV show or movie, Star Wars, board games and other things cool. Hear me give my two cents, relate them to other things I know, and make other recommendations!
