Takeaways:

  • We kick off Part One with Dan and Duane from Mixtapes From Hell and Tracy joining us, setting a playful, music-first vibe that mixes jokes, banter, and genuine friendship.
  • I explain the show's 'Pass or Go' game where we play obscure tracks and decide whether to celebrate them or mercilessly roast them.
  • We dive into voice acting with Tracy sharing practical advice about authenticity, script reads, and treating each line like an acting choice, not just audio.
  • I highlight how we champion under-the-radar music — from Winnipeg's Moontan to other indie bands — and why finding new music now requires proactive searching.
  • We have a hilarious live improv bit where everyone says 'let's get it on' in different characters, demonstrating how voice, intent, and timing change meaning.
  • I reflect on career inspiration: Tracy went full-time into voice acting later in life, showing there's no fixed timeline for creative success.
  • We also geek out over movie and music culture — from High Fidelity quotes and Jack Black's covers to discussions about discovering music without MTV or radio help.

You like that?

Speaker A:

Price is Right to find a crusty.

Speaker A:

This is bigger than friendship.

Speaker D:

This is what you call cosmic.

Speaker D:

And the Buddhists call it, let me see.

Speaker A:

Reincarnation.

Speaker E:

We see musi.

Since when is Pismo beach inside a cave, I wonder.

Speaker E:

You know, I just bet we should.

Yeah, we're all here for Todd.

Speaker A:

He is laid out, stone to match, literally.

Speaker A:

I don't think he can feel his ass right now,.

Speaker E:

Strangely enough.

Speaker E:

No kind of way.

Speaker F:

Whoa.

Speaker A:

The hell's going on?

Speaker E:

I hit the ground running.

Speaker A:

I felt like Mike Muir there.

Speaker A:

What is that song?

Speaker A:

Dwayne knows it.

Speaker A:

What the hell is going on around here?

Speaker B:

What the hell's going on around here?

Speaker E:

Now we got nothing.

Speaker A:

Welcome to the Shang Geek and Fast Rip Podcast.

Speaker A:

We are fretless today.

Speaker A:

Oh, that was good.

Speaker E:

I like acoustic.

Speaker E:

Yeah, I know, right?

Speaker E:

Look at you.

Speaker D:

Clever.

Speaker E:

Happy belated birthday, my friend.

Speaker A:

Well, thank you.

Speaker A:

Thank you.

Speaker A:

Yesterday.

Speaker A:

I'm 25.

Speaker A:

That's correct.

Speaker E:

Is it?

Speaker E:

Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker A:

I'm now legal in Ghana.

Speaker A:

I'm now legal in Ghana.

Speaker A:

I can drink in Ghana.

Speaker A:

So I'm.

Speaker A:

I'm gonna drink, if you know what I'm saying.

Speaker A:

But it's freaking horrible.

Speaker E:

Rim shot.

Speaker A:

I got one of those on.

Speaker A:

On this.

Speaker A:

On my new toy here somewhere.

Speaker A:

Where's my rim shot?

Speaker A:

I got a. I've got like 17 pages of sound effects here.

Speaker A:

This is.

Speaker A:

This is crazy.

Speaker E:

Got a new toy.

Speaker A:

So today we are joined by three guests.

Speaker A:

One is one of the most returning guests of all time.

Speaker A:

She holds some kind of record.

Speaker A:

It might be the warrant Dog eat dog record.

Speaker A:

I'm not sure.

Speaker B:

The top.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

High as a circus.

Speaker B:

Like a bonfire.

Speaker B:

Oh, like a bonfire.

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker G:

But.

Speaker A:

Who are you?

Speaker A:

Tell us who you are.

Speaker E:

Well, hi, My name is Tracy, and I haven't had a drink.

Speaker E:

No, wait, that's another meeting.

Speaker E:

My name is Tracy and I'm a voice actor out of beautiful downtown Montreal.

Speaker E:

And Sean and I have been awesome friends since like Napoleon was a cadet or around about there and.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

So like despite the distance, despite the time between us, we are still hanging in there despite the, you know, the restraining order and stuff like that.

Speaker E:

So.

Speaker E:

You know.

Speaker E:

But Sean's.

Speaker E:

Sean's my guy.

Speaker E:

She's.

Speaker E:

He's my.

Speaker E:

My bud.

Speaker E:

He.

Speaker E:

And he also has incriminating evidence on me from the white.

Speaker A:

Certainly do not going to talk about that regarding Rudy Sarzo.

Speaker A:

We might share that later.

Speaker D:

I mean the weird part here is that Tracy restraining.

Speaker D:

Tracy gets the restraining order against Sean.

Speaker D:

But then now she's calling him all the time.

Speaker D:

So I. I don't switch it.

Speaker E:

It's like six months.

Speaker E:

It's like six months.

Speaker E:

He has it six months.

Speaker E:

I have it.

Speaker A:

Yeah, we trade it.

Speaker D:

We trade custody of the restraining order.

Speaker E:

Fun.

Speaker E:

Fun fact.

Speaker E:

Todd and I have the same birthday.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

So shout out to Todd and.

Speaker E:

And being, you know, waylaid.

Speaker E:

Sorry about that.

Speaker E:

That's my dog who's like once I.

Speaker A:

Thought how do I get on this channel?

Speaker E:

That's right.

Speaker E:

Exactly.

Speaker E:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

I think he likes you, Dwayne.

Speaker E:

So.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

So welcome and thank you for the amazing intro and it's.

Speaker E:

It's.

Speaker E:

It's an honor and a pleasure to be.

Speaker E:

To be here tonight.

Speaker A:

Now what about these other knuckleheads we have in the room here?

Speaker F:

The double Ds?

Speaker A:

The double Ds.

Speaker A:

So let's.

Speaker E:

Dwayne is the bigger D. That's right.

Speaker E:

We've already discussed this.

Speaker F:

We determined I'm the left.

Speaker F:

I'm the left one.

Speaker F:

And that's larger.

Speaker F:

It's closer to the heart.

Speaker A:

So what she called you like Tweeter in the Monkey man or something?

Speaker A:

One of you Tweeter wanted to use.

Speaker C:

The Monkey man were harder for cash.

Speaker C:

They speed up on ad selling.

Speaker C:

Selling cocaine and hash to an undercover cop who had a sister named Jan for reasons unexplained she loved the Monk and man Peter was a boy scouts.

Speaker C:

He went to Vietnam found out the hard way Nobody gives a damn.

Speaker C:

You know that they found freedom just across the Jersey line Hopped into a stolen cops on Highway 99 when the walls came down all the way to hell Never saw them when they standing Never saw them when they.

Speaker D:

I'm not sure which one I want to be right.

Speaker A:

Oh man, this is great.

Speaker A:

Dwayne, where the hell are you from?

Speaker F:

I'm here in Ohio.

Speaker A:

Oh, in Ohio.

Speaker F:

In Ohio.

Speaker A:

Is that a band or.

Speaker F:

Oh, the Ohio Players.

Speaker A:

They were the Ohio Players.

Speaker A:

There, see?

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

I knew you.

Speaker A:

I. I knew you'd follow.

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker F:

And it's.

Speaker F:

Corey would say, where?

Speaker F:

I'm 10 minutes away from Dan in Wisconsin.

Speaker A:

Well, yeah, that's right.

Speaker A:

They're right next door.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker F:

Right next door to each other.

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

Apparently, America's a small country, and everybody knows each other.

Speaker D:

I. I don't know.

Speaker A:

And who's that other husky voice there?

Speaker D:

The right D of the double Ds?

Speaker D:

I'm Dan Papathopoulos, and I am yet another guy clogging up the.

Speaker D:

The podcasting sphere out there, drug into this thing kicking and screaming.

Speaker D:

I was minding my own business.

Speaker D:

But, you know, when Corey Morissette calls, you answer the call.

Speaker A:

So did he show up.

Speaker A:

Did he show up with Brown's, like, pedal van to pick you up or what?

Speaker D:

Well, you can't get across the border right now, but I think he want.

Speaker D:

Wanted to.

Speaker F:

We were grabbed and tossed in the van.

Speaker F:

We.

Speaker F:

Against.

Speaker A:

You know what?

Speaker A:

You know what's funny?

Speaker A:

Brown tried to cross the border, and even Trump wouldn't let him in.

Speaker D:

Wow.

Speaker A:

We got to take our digs when we can.

Speaker A:

And.

Speaker A:

And with that in mind, we have to play Brown's theme song just because we can.

Speaker G:

Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable?

Speaker A:

Oh, no, that's not it.

Speaker A:

What the hell?

Speaker A:

Oh.

Speaker G:

Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable, or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?

Speaker A:

It's a very good question.

Speaker A:

It's a very good question.

Speaker F:

Very good question.

Speaker A:

Tracy knows that movie.

Speaker A:

Tracy can recite that movie.

Speaker E:

High Fidelity.

Speaker E:

Absolutely.

Speaker F:

Yes, I remember that.

Speaker F:

Boy, it's been a while since that one.

Speaker E:

John Cusack, God bless him.

Speaker A:

I have many sound bites from that movie.

Speaker A:

I've added a bunch.

Speaker F:

Black was in there, too, right?

Speaker A:

He was.

Speaker A:

That was one of his first roles.

Speaker A:

Yeah, his.

Speaker A:

His breakout role.

Speaker F:

And.

Speaker A:

Hey, Tracy, you and I were just talking this week, and were we not talking about Jack Black?

Speaker A:

Were we not talking about this song?

Speaker A:

Should we play that song right now?

Speaker A:

Tracy, you're talking about a Jack Black song.

Speaker E:

Absolutely.

Speaker E:

Knowing what he's talking about, you actually.

Speaker A:

Know what I'm talking about.

Speaker A:

But I also.

Speaker A:

I think one of you should be the Tenacious D. I don't know who's the Baldwin?

Speaker A:

Which one's Tenacious?

Speaker E:

Who's Bold?

Speaker A:

The Double D?

Speaker D:

No, no, I. Bullhead.

Speaker A:

Okay, so we're gonna play this.

Speaker A:

This Little Diddy, you know what?

Speaker A:

Right into Passer girl.

Speaker A:

Here we go.

Speaker A:

So we're gonna play a song.

Speaker A:

You guys know the rules of the game.

Speaker D:

Absolutely.

Speaker E:

Negatory.

Speaker A:

Oh, no, you haven't Played Pass or Go.

Speaker A:

So pass.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

So the idea with Pass or Go, we're gonna play a song, nobody knows what it is, which is a lie, because some of us do.

Speaker A:

And you are going to raise your hand when you say, turn this shit off, or Holy, this is awesome.

Speaker A:

Let's talk about it.

Speaker A:

That's the.

Speaker A:

That's the rule.

Speaker A:

And then if someone can identify it, you get to share a year's worth of rice and Roni, as Corey Morrisette would say, sweet.

Speaker E:

All right.

Speaker A:

Or it might be a rigatoni, I'm not sure.

Speaker A:

What's that?

Speaker A:

Share with Scott Askin.

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker F:

He's won quite a bit of that on Amazon.

Speaker G:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I mean, you know, he just keeps going in game shows and winning that stuff.

Speaker A:

It's great.

Speaker A:

So, okay, so we're gonna play this song.

Speaker A:

Raise your hand.

Speaker A:

Raise your hand if this is the worst piece of you've ever heard or the best piece of you've ever heard, and you need to talk about it.

Speaker A:

Here we go.

Speaker A:

Let's play it.

Speaker G:

First, I have to introduce a band, so please don't leave until after they finish and we play the record.

Speaker G:

Right now, it's my great, great pleasure to introduce Sonic Death Monkey.

Speaker B:

I'm an idiot.

Speaker A:

I should have played the whole album first.

Speaker B:

These people are going to run the place down.

Speaker B:

It's going to be fun.

Speaker B:

Thank you.

Speaker E:

You're too kind.

Speaker A:

Rob, thank you for the enthusiastic intro.

Speaker A:

Take it from a dome show, monkey.

Speaker D:

We're on the verge of being called Kathleen.

Speaker A:

Oh, wait.

Speaker A:

Oh, I gotta pause it.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker E:

Who the is 11 so far?

Speaker E:

Who the is Alice?

Speaker E:

And the only way I know this song is from karaoke.

Speaker E:

And, like, all I.

Speaker E:

All I know is I'm looking around in the bar and, like, everybody's singing along.

Speaker E:

Who the is Alice?

Speaker E:

I'm like, absolutely.

Speaker E:

Who the is Alice?

Speaker E:

So, yes, absolutely.

Speaker E:

Thank you for just doing a full circle.

Speaker A:

It's so you.

Speaker A:

So you think that's what we're playing?

Speaker A:

That's not what the song we're playing.

Speaker B:

It's not.

Speaker A:

No, it's not.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker E:

Nevadori.

Speaker E:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I think I got to move it along here.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

The anticipation right now is, like, killing me now.

Speaker E:

You just threw me a curveball.

Speaker E:

I thought for sure.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Okay, I'm ready.

Speaker A:

You guys ready?

Speaker A:

Here we go.

Speaker F:

Ready?

Speaker F:

Holy.

Speaker A:

You don't like it already?

Speaker B:

No, no.

Speaker E:

Oh, sorry.

Speaker E:

I thought it was.

Speaker E:

No, no, I love it.

Speaker D:

No, he's.

Speaker G:

That's.

Speaker E:

That's an epic rendition.

Speaker E:

Wow.

Speaker F:

Who's doing this?

Speaker F:

Do we.

Speaker F:

When do we find Black?

Speaker E:

Who's singing?

Speaker F:

Oh, that's Jack Black.

Speaker A:

Yeah, that's Jack Black.

Speaker F:

What's that from?

Speaker A:

It's from High Fidelity.

Speaker F:

Oh, I haven't seen it forever.

Speaker A:

Let's remember a couple more seconds here.

Speaker F:

Oh, I hear it now.

Speaker A:

Let's get it on.

Speaker B:

Let's love sugar.

Speaker B:

Let's get it on.

Speaker A:

And I'm trying to get you in the mood before the.

Speaker A:

Before pan gets home.

Speaker A:

So we're playing this for you.

Speaker F:

It's not Wednesday.

Speaker F:

Wednesday nights are night.

Speaker F:

Oh,.

Speaker D:

So says Zeke.

Speaker D:

I mean, boxed this in and I. I don't know where.

Speaker D:

How he got the authority, but wow, that is.

Speaker D:

I mean, Even back then, Mr. Jack Black there, he's.

Speaker F:

He.

Speaker F:

He's.

Speaker D:

I mean, obviously he's not a shy person and he's going for it.

Speaker D:

He's committing for it.

Speaker D:

You get a good Marvin Gaye type of vibe out of him.

Speaker D:

Very credibly done.

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker F:

I'm used to hearing him sing metal.

Speaker A:

It's a. I know, right?

Speaker F:

I wasn't ready for that.

Speaker A:

No, he's.

Speaker A:

He's got.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

It's.

Speaker A:

It's good.

Speaker A:

This is the first time I heard Jack Black sing.

Speaker A:

I saw this movie, this movie on me.

Speaker A:

This is like, I don't know, top five movie for me.

Speaker F:

What year that come out?

Speaker F:

Because I don't think I've seen it since it came out.

Speaker F:

I remember going to theater and seeing it.

Speaker F:

Seeing it, but that's a good question.

Speaker A:

I. I use the goggler and take a piece.

Speaker F:

90S, wasn't it?

Speaker E:

Yeah, it was like the early 90s.

Speaker D:

I. I'm gonna admit to have never have seen this sucker.

Speaker A:

1995.

Speaker F:

95.

Speaker F:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Or.

Speaker A:

No, hang on.

Speaker A:

Sorry.

Speaker A:

The book was:

Speaker A:

The.

Speaker A:

The movie was:

Speaker E:

Really?

Speaker E:

Wow.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker F:

So 26 years ago.

Speaker F:

I probably should watch it again.

Speaker A:

That's yesterday, isn't it?

Speaker E:

It feels like it.

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So many quotable lines from that movie, like.

Speaker A:

Like, I can't even.

Speaker A:

It's nuts.

Speaker A:

How many quotable lines are in that.

Speaker A:

In that film?

Speaker A:

Like the.

Speaker A:

The line about, I'm gonna sell.

Speaker A:

I'm gonna sell 10 albums.

Speaker A:

Just watch.

Speaker A:

And he goes, Puts.

Speaker A:

Puts an album on the turntable.

Speaker A:

It's play the song by the Beta Band.

Speaker A:

I don't know if you guys know who the Beta Band is.

Speaker A:

Plays the Beta Band.

Speaker A:

And then everyone in the.

Speaker A:

In the record store stops, and they're all kind of like looking up, one nodding their heads like, oh, yeah, that's fantastic.

Speaker A:

That's pretty good.

Speaker A:

And that's how, you know.

Speaker F:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

That movie's great.

Speaker G:

I will now sell five copies of the three eps by the Beta Band.

Speaker E:

Do it.

Speaker D:

Who is that?

Speaker A:

The Beta Band.

Speaker A:

It's good.

Speaker G:

I know.

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

It is a cultural staple and a. I guess an insight into just people's mentality and just, you know, by virtue of sampling an album, it's just people are like, yeah, let's.

Speaker E:

Well, this is the best album ever.

Speaker E:

It's like people are very, let's just say fickle sometimes when it comes to new stuff.

Speaker E:

And.

Speaker E:

But anyways, that's just.

Speaker E:

Yeah, but, yes, absolutely.

Speaker E:

And I had John Q's axle, you know, and he's hot.

Speaker E:

He can do.

Speaker E:

He can do.

Speaker E:

Right, Right.

Speaker E:

I know.

Speaker E:

Right?

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Right, right, right, Dan.

Speaker A:

Right, Dan.

Speaker A:

John Cusack for all of us, you.

Speaker G:

Know,.

Speaker A:

But, you know, for.

Speaker F:

For.

Speaker A:

For the men who.

Speaker A:

Do you guys remember who.

Speaker E:

The female lead.

Speaker A:

Some of his paramours were in that film?

Speaker A:

Even he's going through all his ex girlfriends.

Speaker A:

He's got the list.

Speaker A:

So the whole idea is he's going to list the top five heartbreaks of all time that he suffered.

Speaker A:

Because everything is a top five or top ten list.

Speaker A:

Everything.

Speaker A:

Top five songs to have sex to.

Speaker A:

Top five songs to break up to Top.

Speaker A:

You know, everything is.

Speaker A:

Everything in the movie is all about top.

Speaker A:

Top five, top ten list.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker D:

Rob, it's your turn.

Speaker G:

Okay.

Speaker G:

I'm feeling kind of basic today.

Speaker G:

Top five side ones, track ones.

Speaker G:

Janie Jones, Clash from the Clash.

Speaker G:

Let's Get It On.

Speaker G:

Marvin Gay from Let's Get It On.

Speaker G:

Nirvana.

Speaker G:

Smells Like Teen Spirit off a.

Speaker G:

Never mind.

Speaker A:

Oh, no, Rob, that's not obvious enough.

Speaker G:

Not at all.

Speaker A:

How about Point of no Return on Point of no Return, Lewis.

Speaker G:

So you can get up White Light, White Heat, Velvet Underground.

Speaker F:

Okay.

Speaker A:

That would be on my list, though.

Speaker D:

Not on mine.

Speaker G:

Massive Attack, no Protection.

Speaker G:

The song is Radiation Ruling the Nation.

Speaker A:

And so the whole movie, you get to find out these five biggest heartbreaks.

Speaker A:

So one of them was Catherine Zeta Jones.

Speaker A:

A very young Catherine Zeta Jones.

Speaker E:

Shut the front door.

Speaker A:

Oh, my God.

Speaker D:

At the time.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I'm just looking this up here.

Speaker E:

That's insane.

Speaker F:

It's coming back to me.

Speaker F:

Why I forgot all about.

Speaker A:

Do you guys get.

Speaker A:

Did I.

Speaker A:

Does anybody have Disney?

Speaker A:

Because it's on there.

Speaker E:

Yep.

Speaker E:

Okay.

Speaker F:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Yeah,.

Speaker D:

I. I'll have to give it a shot.

Speaker D:

I mean, Charlie.

Speaker A:

Yeah, Charlie was Catherine Zeta Jones.

Speaker F:

Okay.

Speaker A:

She cheated on him with a guy named Justin.

Speaker D:

Isn't that always the case?

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

It's always a job.

Speaker C:

You know what?

Speaker E:

It's always the.

Speaker A:

Justin, honestly, I. I would really recommend.

Speaker A:

I should.

Speaker A:

You know, if only there was a podcast that talked about movies lovingly.

Speaker A:

I don't know if there was such a show, but that's a movie I'd want to talk.

Speaker D:

It's an idea.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I don't think it ever takes off, though.

Speaker D:

Well, you know, if you.

Speaker D:

If you were to do.

Speaker D:

If you would do things like maybe airplane or tombstone, it would find legs.

Speaker A:

I think it could find legs and.

Speaker E:

And, you know, and reference it, like you said, like, in a positive way.

Speaker E:

Absolutely.

Speaker E:

I. I think I'd be behind that.

Speaker B:

Totally.

Speaker F:

Someone should totally do this.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

Maybe I would feel.

Speaker E:

I think, like, I can.

Speaker E:

That feels like something that would be done by a Canadian that just.

Speaker E:

That.

Speaker F:

Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker A:

But it has to be a Saskatchewanian.

Speaker E:

Oh, absolutely.

Speaker E:

Yes, exactly.

Speaker E:

Well, you know, because they have that wholesome aspect to them.

Speaker E:

You know, that whole prairie thing and, you know, hanging out with the sheep and the cows.

Speaker E:

There's not much to do.

Speaker F:

Wow, that took a turn.

Speaker A:

You know, we always have to make.

Speaker E:

Fun of hanging out with the sheep and the cows.

Speaker D:

I do hear they have the river pirates there.

Speaker D:

I learned that from the.

Speaker D:

From a radio show recently, so.

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Hey, so I'm gonna do something.

Speaker A:

I was talking to Corey earlier, and he's like, fuck, you guys should live stream tonight.

Speaker A:

You guys want to live stream?

Speaker E:

Hells, yeah.

Speaker D:

By all means.

Speaker F:

Oh, sure.

Speaker B:

All right.

Speaker A:

He said he wanted to watch.

Speaker A:

You can't join for obvious reasons, but he wants.

Speaker A:

I want to listen in.

Speaker E:

He likes to watch.

Speaker A:

Hell, let's do it.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker A:

There it is.

Speaker A:

We are streaming, guys.

Speaker E:

Sweet.

Speaker E:

Into the universe.

Speaker A:

What's that from?

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker E:

Who's it?

Speaker E:

Was it.

Speaker F:

Oh, God.

Speaker A:

So what were we doing?

Speaker A:

I think we had a.

Speaker A:

What we do?

Speaker A:

We were listening to a song.

Speaker A:

Do we want to hear more of let's get it on, or you guys want to feel a bit more of the.

Speaker A:

The Jack Black?

Speaker E:

Absolutely.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker E:

Because just.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

To get into that funky kind of.

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

Turn the lights down.

Speaker E:

They go along with Dwayne's porn collection.

Speaker G:

It's.

Speaker E:

It's said with.

Speaker E:

Said with love.

Speaker E:

All the love.

Speaker E:

I got your back.

Speaker E:

Have to do that.

Speaker E:

Was it under white man's overbite?

Speaker A:

That's great.

Speaker C:

Wow.

Speaker E:

Can you get any whiter?

Speaker A:

Okay, so hang on.

Speaker A:

So I am digging this.

Speaker A:

This is one of my favorite covers of any.

Speaker A:

Of all time.

Speaker A:

I. Tracy too.

Speaker A:

I know, but what about you two gentlemen?

Speaker A:

You guys host the Cinderella podcast or the.

Speaker C:

The.

Speaker A:

The podcast that's currently featuring Cinderella.

Speaker A:

What's your thoughts on mixtapes from hell?

Speaker E:

You have to plug it in.

Speaker E:

Have to plug it.

Speaker F:

Oh, I love Marvin Gaye.

Speaker F:

I got his box set over there.

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Nice.

Speaker F:

Yeah, Yeah.

Speaker D:

I mean, I was.

Speaker F:

I mean, you can't go wrong with that.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker D:

I. I was raised on blues, rhythm and blues, soul, that type of thing.

Speaker D:

That.

Speaker D:

That was.

Speaker D:

That was all Dad's influences on me.

Speaker D:

And.

Speaker D:

And this is very credible.

Speaker D:

And it.

Speaker D:

You could.

Speaker D:

You could just.

Speaker D:

Absolutely.

Speaker D:

He's.

Speaker D:

Now he's being smooth, too.

Speaker D:

I mean, you could just go to town with him.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker A:

Wait a minute.

Speaker A:

What?

Speaker E:

I mean, I was just gonna say.

Speaker E:

I don't think I would.

Speaker E:

Maybe you would.

Speaker E:

Well, I mean.

Speaker D:

I mean, where else was I gonna hang out?

Speaker E:

Let's discuss.

Speaker E:

Let's discuss the definition of going to town.

Speaker E:

I think they're very different.

Speaker E:

I think they're very different.

Speaker A:

That's what I thought you meant by going to town.

Speaker B:

He said going to town.

Speaker F:

To each his own.

Speaker E:

Wow.

Speaker A:

Jesus.

Speaker A:

Okay, come on.

Speaker A:

I'm gonna pee myself on the pizza.

Speaker E:

Simmer.

Speaker A:

Oh, God, that's awesome.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

Okay, I. I don't think we need to play anymore.

Speaker A:

Is this a pass or is this a.

Speaker A:

Go, Dan.

Speaker A:

Go, Dwayne, Go crazy.

Speaker E:

Total go.

Speaker E:

Go, man, go.

Speaker E:

Absolutely.

Speaker A:

Yeah, that's.

Speaker A:

That's definitely a goal for me.

Speaker A:

That's this genius brilliance.

Speaker E:

There's so, like.

Speaker E:

I mean, his mom, I'm sure you guys know, was like, responsible.

Speaker E:

Well, she used to work at NASA.

Speaker A:

What?

Speaker E:

She was.

Speaker D:

I did not know that.

Speaker E:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker E:

She was actually one of the engineers or something like that that was responsible for one of the, like, Apollo 11 or 11.

Speaker E:

Apollo 13.

Speaker E:

I'm not quite sure, but yeah, she was part of the.

Speaker E:

Of the.

Speaker E:

The.

Speaker E:

The mission.

Speaker E:

The, you know, going into space and stuff like that.

Speaker E:

Wow.

Speaker E:

Can you tell?

Speaker E:

I don't have a. I don't.

Speaker E:

I don't have a university degree, but yeah, look it up.

Speaker A:

And then University.

Speaker E:

And then the university.

Speaker A:

That's what they're called in Canada, by the way.

Speaker A:

Or.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Or as Mighty K calls it, Canada.

Speaker E:

God blessed Mighty J.

Speaker D:

They don't have a degree, though.

Speaker D:

For you.

Speaker D:

They should have that.

Speaker D:

Voice by.

Speaker D:

Voices by degree.

Speaker D:

That isn't an actual major yet.

Speaker E:

I am going to have to get that on a T shirt or something because I think that is an amazing idea.

Speaker E:

Voices by.

Speaker E:

Yep.

Speaker E:

Yeah, I'm gonna.

Speaker E:

I'm gonna run with that.

Speaker G:

So.

Speaker A:

So I wanted to bring up Something that.

Speaker A:

That came up this week.

Speaker A:

I took a listen.

Speaker A:

Tracy showed up on someone else's podcast again.

Speaker E:

But this is.

Speaker E:

Yeah, I'm something.

Speaker A:

I know about it.

Speaker A:

Do you boys know about the.

Speaker A:

Her appearance on another show?

Speaker F:

I know she's been on our show.

Speaker E:

It's voiceover centric.

Speaker E:

Well, that's like.

Speaker E:

I didn't get it.

Speaker E:

I didn't get a repeat invite, so I'm like, okay, whatever.

Speaker E:

I guess I'm gonna have to go overseas because.

Speaker E:

Whatever.

Speaker E:

Wow.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker E:

Shots fired.

Speaker E:

No, actually, I was given the unique and amazing opportunity to be part of a voice over podcast that is based out of the UK called How do you say that?

Speaker E:

And it is hosted by two incredibly talented voice actors, Mark Rice and Samantha Boffin, who were unbelievably hospitable and so kind, and they just made the experience so incredibly amazing.

Speaker E:

And yeah, I had the opportunity to sit in with them and read some scripts and.

Speaker E:

Because essentially the premise is there isn't just one way to read a script, which is absolutely true.

Speaker E:

Like for every different person, it will be read completely differently.

Speaker G:

Sure.

Speaker E:

And so, so basically it's just to, I guess, bring the acting part of it and have it be really based in fun.

Speaker E:

Because if you're not having fun and you're too focused on doing it perfectly, then you're missing the point and you're gonna miss the mark because it's all in just being your authentic self and giving your best performance, whatever that is, on any given day.

Speaker E:

Thank you.

Speaker D:

I've been to panels at Cons where they'll get assemble some of the legendary, you know, Billy west type voice actors.

Speaker E:

Absolutely.

Speaker D:

Pull out a script like I think I saw them do Back to the Future once, and then assign it some of the cartoon characters.

Speaker D:

All right.

Speaker D:

Do Marty McFly as and somebody that Billy west is famous for and do, you know, and.

Speaker D:

And yeah.

Speaker D:

So that they can go to town.

Speaker D:

Go to town.

Speaker F:

And you're going to town all night.

Speaker A:

Go to Milwaukee.

Speaker A:

You get to go to Milwaukee.

Speaker D:

Algonquin for the good Land.

Speaker A:

That's right.

Speaker D:

It gives it that spin.

Speaker E:

Absolutely.

Speaker D:

It gives that spin by.

Speaker D:

By the people that do with the kinds of things you're doing for a living.

Speaker D:

And just, you know, it's hilarious.

Speaker D:

The crowd is rolling in the aisles at those panels.

Speaker D:

They always do a great job with that stuff.

Speaker D:

So, I mean, it's kind of sounds.

Speaker D:

And if you keep doing that, I would, you know, you could probably steal that idea.

Speaker D:

I won't tell Billy, you know, thanks.

Speaker D:

Just do it in your Best voices.

Speaker A:

Hey, so following Tracy's example, I think all of us should do a read and present it in a different way, because I think here's something that some people don't know.

Speaker A:

Dan was on the Elder podcast, and you did a read, and honestly, sir, you were actually quite good.

Speaker A:

I was very impressed.

Speaker E:

What, you've been hiding secrets.

Speaker D:

Well, yeah, Scott Monroe came a calling, you know, and he was assembling a lot of people to do the voices for what he was.

Speaker D:

And my God, is that guy a writer?

Speaker D:

Is he.

Speaker D:

I mean, there was a reason, too, that he was.

Speaker D:

He won that.

Speaker D:

That essay contest season of.

Speaker D:

On the podcast Will Rock.

Speaker D:

You know, between him and Brad Gould, those two were writing up storms there too.

Speaker D:

But, yeah, you know, he just.

Speaker D:

He wrote the script that Gene Simmons never did, recruited people to do the parts.

Speaker D:

My part, I. I got to play a character called the Fox in that, and it kind of took on a life.

Speaker D:

Kind of sounded a lot like Waddle from Star wars, from the Phantom Menace.

Speaker D:

Not exactly what I was going for, but it settled in there, and I just kind of rolled with it, and it was a lot of fun.

Speaker E:

But that's.

Speaker E:

That's essentially the.

Speaker E:

The basis of, like.

Speaker E:

Of anything in the sense that, like, if you're actually allowing yourself to have fun in the moment, like, whatever job you're doing, and it makes it significantly easier to get through.

Speaker E:

And, like, I'm.

Speaker E:

I can't believe I get to do this, like, to.

Speaker E:

To be a voice actor and, you know, to.

Speaker E:

To actually be a creative.

Speaker E:

Because I've always admired this from Sean.

Speaker E:

Like, he's.

Speaker E:

He is a force of nature with a capital N. He's so incredibly talented on, like, on all fields, on.

Speaker E:

On all levels.

Speaker E:

He's a writer, he's a singer, he's a musician, he walks on water, whatever.

Speaker E:

And, like, well, you know, it's cold, it's cold.

Speaker E:

It's Canada, so don't really count.

Speaker E:

So.

Speaker B:

But.

Speaker F:

Got me there now.

Speaker E:

But, I mean, Sean has.

Speaker E:

He's the epitome of.

Speaker E:

Of what it is to be a creative.

Speaker E:

And there's no fear in whatever he does, because he does it because he has belief in himself.

Speaker E:

And whatever comes out, it's just.

Speaker E:

That's what it is.

Speaker E:

And you don't think about the process.

Speaker E:

No, but it's true.

Speaker E:

And I mean, like, you need to have that, you know, that part of you kind of brought to light, because, like I said, you are truly a creative genius on all levels.

Speaker E:

And I am.

Speaker E:

I am simply in the sidelines kind of, like, go, Sean, go.

Speaker E:

And, like, if he can do it, I can.

Speaker E:

And so, you know, he inspired me to.

Speaker D:

Yeah, I mean, you got your career from Sean.

Speaker D:

I mean, if I'd have known him longer, I probably would have made the same move.

Speaker D:

But, you know, I. I'm.

Speaker D:

I'm the Johnny come lately, so.

Speaker D:

And already kind of pigeonholed somewhere.

Speaker E:

There's no.

Speaker E:

There's no timeline for anything.

Speaker E:

I mean, I went full time into voice acting at 52, so.

Speaker E:

But I had been doing it for 10 years, kind of on the side, not realizing that this was my calling.

Speaker E:

This was this.

Speaker E:

I have this ability.

Speaker E:

And the fact that I was, like, this close to being the French Canadian voice of Siri and Alexa.

Speaker E:

That's why I drink in the morning.

Speaker E:

But that's completely different and separate, and we're not going to dwell on that.

Speaker E:

But anyways.

Speaker E:

But yeah, it's just like when you have these unique opportunities, like, once in a lifetime, and you're like, well, why are you wasting your life?

Speaker E:

Like, you need to just take the bull by the horns and just go those 10 seconds and, you know, see,.

Speaker A:

I always get that wrong.

Speaker A:

I always grab the bull by the balls and then, well, you see, and.

Speaker D:

Then he went to town.

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

Nice.

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker F:

Go down on them balls.

Speaker D:

We have a.

Speaker D:

Apparently have a recurring gig here.

Speaker C:

Sorry.

Speaker E:

This is.

Speaker A:

This is what's happening.

Speaker E:

Absolutely.

Speaker B:

Squirrel.

Speaker B:

Where the.

Speaker A:

Where are we?

Speaker B:

Where did we go?

Speaker D:

Oh, that's right.

Speaker D:

We follow the script.

Speaker F:

Yes.

Speaker A:

We're supposed to follow.

Speaker A:

So here's the script.

Speaker A:

So we're just listening to let's Get it on by Jack Black.

Speaker A:

So I want each one of us to say, let's get it on, using a different voice to imply a different intent.

Speaker E:

How many voices?

Speaker A:

Well, there's four of us, so we can do four.

Speaker E:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Or we can do it in harmony.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker E:

No, no, no.

Speaker B:

But I'll be the.

Speaker A:

I'll be the last one dying.

Speaker A:

So we're not going to let Dan go first?

Speaker A:

Maybe.

Speaker E:

Please don't die, Dwayne.

Speaker D:

I'll get better.

Speaker A:

You'll get better.

Speaker A:

Okay, Dwayne, you're going to start us.

Speaker A:

You're going to say, let's get it on.

Speaker A:

And what's.

Speaker A:

And what's the intent here, Tracy?

Speaker A:

What?

Speaker A:

Like, give them some motivation.

Speaker A:

What's going.

Speaker E:

Oh, okay.

Speaker E:

Well, let's see here.

Speaker E:

I'm gonna say to be a board museum guide.

Speaker F:

Oh, a museum guide.

Speaker F:

Guide that's bored.

Speaker F:

Is that what you're saying?

Speaker E:

Yep.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

Like, he's Done this tour like a gajillion times.

Speaker E:

And he's just like, he.

Speaker E:

He's just phoning it in.

Speaker E:

He's just phoning it in.

Speaker F:

And I'm just saying that one line.

Speaker A:

Yeah, we'll keep it easy.

Speaker F:

All right, let's get it on.

Speaker A:

That's good.

Speaker A:

I like that.

Speaker A:

I like that.

Speaker E:

Absolutely.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Are you gonna give direction to.

Speaker E:

Absolutely.

Speaker E:

Hit me.

Speaker E:

Okay, so Boy scout, I want you to be a 12 year old boy scout who's like super eager, like eager beaver boy scout.

Speaker F:

To get it on.

Speaker E:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker E:

To take it to town.

Speaker A:

Take it to Milwaukee.

Speaker D:

Let's see here, let's see here.

Speaker D:

And then, and then, and then we're gonna go out and we're gonna start tying those knots to get our badges.

Speaker D:

I mean, let's get it on and do this here.

Speaker A:

Nice.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

That was very eager.

Speaker E:

That was very keener.

Speaker F:

Okay.

Speaker D:

Improv shows, right?

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker E:

Okay.

Speaker E:

So, Sean, you are a heavy metal club bouncer.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker A:

And what.

Speaker A:

And what's my motivation?

Speaker E:

You're like 12ft tall and you're like.

Speaker E:

Like a refrigerator.

Speaker E:

Like, you're like Refrigerator Perry.

Speaker A:

Okay, I like that, that call, but.

Speaker D:

Is he doing an ejection or just looking mean?

Speaker E:

Hey, man, I just.

Speaker E:

I'm offering a suggestion.

Speaker E:

And you, you go to town.

Speaker E:

I'm seeing a theme.

Speaker A:

All right, let's see.

Speaker A:

I don't like you guys being in my club.

Speaker D:

I need you to get out.

Speaker A:

So let's get it on.

Speaker E:

Is his name Tiny?

Speaker A:

Oh, his name was Mike Tyson.

Speaker A:

I was trying to.

Speaker D:

Mike flopped.

Speaker A:

Totally flopped.

Speaker A:

It.

Speaker E:

Let's get.

Speaker E:

Let's get it on.

Speaker E:

You have to have a list.

Speaker E:

Did you just do a spit take?

Speaker A:

That was a spit take.

Speaker A:

Yes, it was.

Speaker E:

Let's get it on.

Speaker F:

No, Sean, you need to do let's Get It On.

Speaker F:

Like Kingdom Come Would have sang because they had a song called.

Speaker E:

I love that song.

Speaker A:

There we go.

Speaker F:

That's it.

Speaker D:

That's.

Speaker A:

There you go.

Speaker E:

That is it.

Speaker E:

Oh, man.

Speaker E:

What an amazing.

Speaker A:

Probably didn't come across well at all.

Speaker D:

Times.

Speaker B:

And happiness.

Speaker B:

Now with time, we're going to do what we do best.

Speaker B:

Get it on.

Speaker B:

Get it on.

Speaker D:

I mean, I didn't get the Mike Tyson out of it, but.

Speaker D:

But I got the big guy who sounded tight.

Speaker D:

You know the time I was thinking tiny, as Tracy said it.

Speaker A:

Yeah, like from Rocket.

Speaker A:

Robin Hood.

Speaker A:

What are you gonna.

Speaker A:

What are we gonna get Tracy to do?

Speaker D:

So Tracy is.

Speaker D:

Okay, same line.

Speaker D:

Of course Tracy is.

Speaker D:

Let's see.

Speaker D:

Oh, she.

Speaker D:

She is at a.

Speaker D:

She is presenting A seminar.

Speaker D:

And it is one of those appropriate.

Speaker D:

Going down the list of appropriate actions and the way you're supposed to treat your co workers, you know, to.

Speaker D:

To not be offensive in any way whatsoever.

Speaker E:

I actually did something like a video, basically.

Speaker D:

Okay.

Speaker E:

Like this is how you're supposed to be when you're an employee at this company.

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

But emphasizing that you're, you know, you shouldn't be sexually harassing people.

Speaker E:

Absolutely.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

Okay, got it.

Speaker F:

Go.

Speaker E:

So in lieu of our last incident last week with Dwayne and Amanda, I have to stipulate once again, that it is prohibited to.

Speaker E:

Let's get it on.

Speaker E:

I hope that this is understood and that we do not have to put any measures in place for the next time.

Speaker E:

Thank you.

Speaker A:

Thank you, Martha.

Speaker F:

But.

Speaker F:

But have you seen Amanda?

Speaker E:

I mean, I know, right?

Speaker E:

Have you seen.

Speaker E:

That would be a great lyric for a song.

Speaker E:

No, it would never work.

Speaker A:

No, it wouldn't work.

Speaker A:

Wouldn't work.

Speaker E:

That would.

Speaker A:

No, would not work.

Speaker A:

All right, I want to do another pass or go just for fun.

Speaker A:

So let's see.

Speaker A:

Well, I've got some.

Speaker A:

I've got.

Speaker A:

And this is all random here.

Speaker A:

So let's see.

Speaker A:

Yeah, let's go with this one.

Speaker A:

Okay, you guys ready?

Speaker E:

Bring it.

Speaker E:

I was born.

Speaker A:

Was that.

Speaker A:

Was that a.

Speaker A:

Hold your hand.

Speaker D:

Come.

Speaker D:

I mean, come on here.

Speaker A:

If.

Speaker D:

If that already doesn't have you ready to just.

Speaker A:

Just to get it on.

Speaker D:

Go to town.

Speaker D:

It's got groove.

Speaker D:

It's.

Speaker D:

It's very.

Speaker D:

It's just what the doctor ordered when you had that bad day at work with a little bit of stank thrown in.

Speaker D:

And so, yeah, it's absolutely good.

Speaker D:

I. I can't see this one.

Speaker D:

I hope it doesn't go south, because right now it's firmly on the go track.

Speaker F:

You.

Speaker A:

You just.

Speaker F:

The gun.

Speaker F:

Because we haven't heard vocals yet, so.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker D:

I'm not even sure who needs it.

Speaker A:

The vocals are going to come on.

Speaker A:

It's going to be a little bit of Tom Weights.

Speaker A:

Well, let me tell you, folks.

Speaker A:

Well, I am the greatest singer in American Songwriter history.

Speaker E:

Martin.

Speaker F:

Martin.

Speaker A:

In honor of Todd Part.

Speaker E:

Yes, I know.

Speaker A:

Do you guys.

Speaker A:

Do you guys want more of this or what?

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

It's a go.

Speaker A:

No.

Speaker A:

Nobody recognizes it, right?

Speaker D:

No.

Speaker A:

Okay, awesome.

Speaker A:

Okay, let's keep.

Speaker B:

Out.

Speaker B:

No turning back.

Speaker B:

You never really know to do it out Till the plane's coming down and you're forced to attack.

Speaker B:

I've been searching for so long Trying to get myself.

Speaker B:

But time to wait for the wind of hell it creeps up Slow and goes in for the cube.

Speaker B:

Now we know.

Speaker B:

You'll never know.

Speaker A:

Holy base.

Speaker F:

That's what I was gonna call out.

Speaker D:

That was my.

Speaker D:

That was my air saxophone.

Speaker F:

Right.

Speaker D:

Oh, especially for.

Speaker D:

For Sean.

Speaker A:

I'm sure there's no way there's no saxophone solo in this song, sir.

Speaker F:

But it would have.

Speaker D:

Not that.

Speaker D:

Not that this isn't already great, but I mean, a little bit better.

Speaker D:

You know that little bit.

Speaker D:

I'm still not identifying this, though.

Speaker D:

So I'm familiar with.

Speaker E:

Is it guess who?

Speaker E:

Or is it Triumph?

Speaker A:

Hey, can it.

Speaker A:

Can I.

Speaker A:

Can I.

Speaker A:

Can I ask a question?

Speaker A:

Of the three of you, how many times does Todd say Sean and his weird music?

Speaker A:

All the time.

Speaker A:

All the time he says this.

Speaker A:

Right, right.

Speaker A:

So what about this one?

Speaker E:

It's not weird at all.

Speaker A:

Is this weird Sean's weird music or is this.

Speaker F:

No.

Speaker A:

Big ass?

Speaker E:

No, this is like hot, high, high.

Speaker E:

Cool level.

Speaker E:

But it's not this driving down the.

Speaker D:

Highway, letting the miles just blow by underneath you and enjoying life.

Speaker E:

It got groove.

Speaker E:

It's got groove.

Speaker A:

So we get.

Speaker A:

We actually got a bunch of people in the chat, by the way.

Speaker B:

Oh.

Speaker A:

Oh, hi, people.

Speaker A:

Yeah, so we got.

Speaker A:

I think that's Tim Armbrester or Tom.

Speaker A:

And who else do we get in there?

Speaker A:

We got Dvorak.

Speaker A:

Corey's there.

Speaker E:

Cory.

Speaker F:

Hi, Corey.

Speaker F:

Hi.

Speaker A:

Tom and I. Oh, yeah.

Speaker A:

And I think That's Josh, right?

Speaker F:

J.C. that'd be Josh.

Speaker A:

J.C. unchained.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

No, no, sorry.

Speaker A:

J. JCM, Les Paul.

Speaker A:

Is that Josh?

Speaker D:

I hadn't seen that moniker before, but.

Speaker A:

I don't have my glasses on, but it looks like the engine room podcast logo.

Speaker A:

I believe so.

Speaker F:

Okay, so it's probably.

Speaker A:

I think that's Josh.

Speaker A:

Joshua.

Speaker E:

Good people.

Speaker E:

Good people.

Speaker F:

Yes.

Speaker F:

So what?

Speaker A:

Okay, so now Tom is not crazy with the vocals, but the instrumentation is cool.

Speaker A:

What are you guys thinking about the vocal?

Speaker E:

I think it's good.

Speaker E:

I'm getting like Soup Song of Greta Van Fleet, but it sounds a little bit like Burton Cummings in a higher octave.

Speaker A:

Don't, don't, don't.

Speaker E:

I'm sorry.

Speaker E:

I'm so sorry.

Speaker E:

I'm so sorry.

Speaker E:

I know he's from Winnipeg.

Speaker E:

I know, and I'm so sorry.

Speaker A:

Oh, everybody knows he's from Winnipeg.

Speaker A:

A Winnipeg treasure.

Speaker F:

I was.

Speaker F:

I was getting more of an Anne Murray voice.

Speaker E:

I'm sorry.

Speaker E:

That must have been off of her earlier stuff, because I was.

Speaker E:

I'm pretty familiar with her canon and.

Speaker E:

And her stuff.

Speaker C:

Wow.

Speaker F:

No, actually, I was getting a little.

Speaker F:

Vocals kind of remind me of Dirty Honey.

Speaker F:

But the music did not.

Speaker E:

Right?

Speaker A:

Oh yeah.

Speaker A:

Good call.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

I love Dirty Honey.

Speaker F:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

And.

Speaker E:

And incidentally,.

Speaker A:

I'm gonna.

Speaker A:

My back pocket.

Speaker A:

Just you just you just wait.

Speaker D:

Take that dirty honey to town.

Speaker A:

I took my dirty honey to Milwaukee.

Speaker B:

Damn.

Speaker E:

Oh, that's so funny.

Speaker A:

Oh my God.

Speaker A:

Okay, well, I'm gonna play a bit more here and then I. I'm gonna have to reveal.

Speaker E:

Can you give us an era like.

Speaker A:

Oh, can I give you what era?

Speaker E:

Like 60s, I mean, 70s, 80s.

Speaker F:

Sounds newer.

Speaker F:

The production to me.

Speaker A:

2015.

Speaker E:

Shut up.

Speaker E:

Oh, wow.

Speaker A:

Okay, I will.

Speaker A:

I will also say that this was played prominently in Sebastian Bach's dressing room when Sebastian Bach was opening for Guns N Roses during the Guns N Roses.

Speaker A:

Less Guns N Roses that only had Axl Rose in it.

Speaker A:

This was being played in the dressing room and bass was guys so ass.

Speaker A:

This is the band he was playing.

Speaker A:

I'll play a little bit more and I will reveal.

Speaker B:

In a game I was in a rock filled tom between the mouse and my soul.

Speaker B:

I cried really hard to swallow the lines of the proming end upon my boy.

Speaker B:

Trying to steal the mind of mankind.

Speaker A:

You guys are never gonna guess this.

Speaker E:

I got nothing.

Speaker E:

I'm.

Speaker D:

I know.

Speaker D:

I'm.

Speaker A:

I specifically wanted to play something that you guys definitely hadn't heard because I want you to hear them.

Speaker A:

And this is what we do on our show.

Speaker A:

We're always trying to expose people to stuff that people don't aren't going to hear.

Speaker A:

You're not going to see us talk about, hey, go listen to that new Metallica record.

Speaker A:

Everyone's already heard the new Metallica record, right?

Speaker A:

I'd rather push some bands that need some pushing.

Speaker E:

Absolutely.

Speaker A:

You know, push, push, push, push.

Speaker E:

Yeah, I was going to say I love push.

Speaker E:

Push.

Speaker E:

I'm going to go, I'm going to die on that hill and say, I want to keep bush.

Speaker E:

Push.

Speaker B:

Little.

Speaker E:

I know this is a crossroad, but keep that on the mixtape.

Speaker E:

But anyways, I'm not going to open up the debate again anyway, so I just.

Speaker E:

I will not be taking any more questions.

Speaker A:

I just shared in the chat their band campaign.

Speaker A:

Their band band is called Moontan.

Speaker A:

They are from Winnipeg.

Speaker A:

They are an independent band.

Speaker C:

Wow.

Speaker A:

I saw them play.

Speaker A:

They all have moon.

Speaker A:

They basically are all different aspects of the moon when they play.

Speaker A:

They're a trio.

Speaker A:

They do a lot of Rush covers.

Speaker A:

I'm sure you can hear that there.

Speaker E:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker A:

And the, the.

Speaker A:

The singer was not originally.

Speaker A:

I, I don't think he was originally intended to be the singer of the band, but they're like, well, we don't have a singer.

Speaker A:

So he took vocal lessons.

Speaker A:

It's like, I guess I'm gonna have to learn how to sing.

Speaker A:

His warmups are an hour and a half, and his cool downs, I think are 30 minutes.

Speaker A:

So it takes a long.

Speaker A:

So he's.

Speaker G:

You.

Speaker A:

You'll never get a chance to meet the singer because he's too busy getting ready for shows.

Speaker E:

That's crazy.

Speaker D:

When you add that all up, that leaves a good, tidy 15 minute set in between the warm up and the cool down.

Speaker A:

Pretty much, yeah.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

We're hearing some Zeppelin influences too, though.

Speaker E:

Oh, absolutely.

Speaker E:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker A:

I have heard of the Zeppelin.

Speaker F:

I have heard of this band, but I haven't heard them because I remember hearing.

Speaker F:

Hearing their name because I was like, is that a Golden Earring tribute band?

Speaker F:

Because they had an album called Moon Dance.

Speaker A:

Absolutely.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker F:

So I remember seeing that call, but I'd never heard them.

Speaker F:

I liked it.

Speaker F:

That was how many albums they had.

Speaker A:

They've got a bunch of eps.

Speaker A:

I think they got one full length in a bunch of.

Speaker A:

In like four eps or three eps.

Speaker A:

I just sent in in the chat and I also shared it on the YouTube, the link to their Bandcamp page.

Speaker A:

They are on like streaming services and stuff.

Speaker A:

But I'd rather push the Bandcamp page because you can go there and you can actually buy.

Speaker A:

Shit.

Speaker F:

How's the.

Speaker F:

We never heard any, like, solos or anything.

Speaker F:

How are they in that?

Speaker A:

Oh, shit.

Speaker A:

Well, we can do that.

Speaker A:

Let's.

Speaker A:

Let's hear this.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Say, you can't save me now, cuz I'm a new agent again.

Speaker B:

Sam.

Speaker A:

So what do we think of that solo?

Speaker E:

Oh, my God.

Speaker F:

That section was cool.

Speaker F:

That was badass.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker F:

I'll be looking into this band that.

Speaker A:

It wasn't even just the solo was the whole breakdown.

Speaker D:

Exactly.

Speaker F:

The breakdown.

Speaker D:

Not a traditional solo.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And a three piece.

Speaker F:

They're a three piece.

Speaker E:

Well, that's just like King's X. I mean, like.

Speaker E:

And yes, the harmonies, though, and how they're just.

Speaker E:

They.

Speaker E:

They meld and flow into one another.

Speaker E:

And for some reason I picked up like, I just.

Speaker E:

I get a flash of extreme.

Speaker F:

Oh, that.

Speaker F:

That one part remind me about Cupid's death.

Speaker F:

Okay.

Speaker E:

Yes, yes, yes.

Speaker E:

Thank you.

Speaker E:

Thank you.

Speaker E:

Exactly.

Speaker A:

Oh, that's a great pull.

Speaker E:

Right?

Speaker F:

I agree.

Speaker F:

I heard a little Cupid's dead when they were all doing that Rift.

Speaker D:

You know what else this is?

Speaker D:

This is.

Speaker D:

This is that band.

Speaker D:

That.

Speaker D:

Okay, you're roaming.

Speaker D:

What this?

Speaker D:

Fill in the blank.

Speaker D:

With the summer music festival of your choice, you know, Millywake's Summerfest, for example.

Speaker D:

But you're.

Speaker D:

You're.

Speaker D:

You're going from through the midway, hitting some food stands, and this is that band.

Speaker D:

You hear that on one of the free stages, you know, off to your left, and that instantly pulls you in.

Speaker D:

Tractor beam, boom.

Speaker D:

There you are.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Like, what the hell?

Speaker A:

So th.

Speaker A:

This is the quality of the bands that come out of Winnipeg that people don't just hear about, unfortunately.

Speaker A:

It's like, why is nobody hearing this?

Speaker A:

It's phenomenal, you know, well, we're on.

Speaker D:

The wrong side of the border.

Speaker G:

That's.

Speaker D:

That's Dwayne and Isaac's skills.

Speaker D:

It's.

Speaker D:

But whatever reason, we don't get that stuff.

Speaker E:

Like, there's so much variety and so many bands.

Speaker E:

Like, everybody wants to have the opportunity to be heard and, like, they just get lost in the din.

Speaker E:

So they have to find ways of just standing out and.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

So that they can get people's interest and attention.

Speaker E:

And you have to be very clever and think outside the box.

Speaker D:

Well, because the fact is, there's no more mtv.

Speaker D:

I don't know.

Speaker D:

It does much.

Speaker D:

Does much music.

Speaker D:

Still do videos.

Speaker E:

No, no, no.

Speaker E:

No problem.

Speaker D:

Okay.

Speaker A:

And VH1.

Speaker A:

Same thing, too.

Speaker A:

They don't play.

Speaker A:

I don't think they do either, right?

Speaker D:

No, no, no.

Speaker E:

All those platforms are gone.

Speaker E:

Like, the ones that we were able to just watch continuously, like videos and discover new bands.

Speaker E:

Like, there's.

Speaker D:

There isn't that opportunity now a terrestrial radio?

Speaker D:

Nobody does that anymore.

Speaker D:

Spotify is only gonna feed.

Speaker D:

Which again, Spotify.

Speaker D:

But Spotify is going to feed you whatever the algorithm to a great extent says.

Speaker A:

You know what?

Speaker A:

If you like this, you're gonna like this song by Drake.

Speaker A:

What?

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Natural Fit or Maroon 5.

Speaker D:

The point I'm driving towards and going to town to deliver, at this point, you want to hear new music, unfortunately, it falls on you to actually go and find it.

Speaker D:

You have to have a couple of websites that you trust to.

Speaker D:

To recommend the stuff shows.

Speaker D:

You listen to some, you know, these guys From Winnipeg, Sean McGinnity, talk about music and.

Speaker D:

And you get turned on.

Speaker D:

You listen to, you know, the Jose Rock Hour and some.

Speaker D:

Tracy from Montreal sends in the best requests.

Speaker D:

But, you know, I'm actively looking for that stuff from the people I trust so that I can keep expanding my horizons musically.

Speaker E:

Yeah, we.

Speaker E:

We do kind of, you know, help each other grow in that respect to discover new things and.

Speaker E:

And that we're all passionate about.

Speaker E:

And music is Obviously, like, that's our lifeblood.

Speaker E:

That's what keeps me, like, just that that's my coffee in the morning.

Speaker E:

And.

Speaker E:

Yeah, but, yeah, it really is.

Speaker E:

It's like, it just.

Speaker E:

It energizes you.

Speaker E:

You go somewhere else.

Speaker E:

I mean, just music has that ability to just transport you and change you as a person because you're like.

Speaker E:

And every time you listen to the song again, you pick out different things and it just becomes all new again.

Speaker E:

So, yeah.

Speaker E:

I mean, knowing people who are incredibly passionate about music, like the four of you, the three of you.

Speaker E:

I'll include Corey in there and just.

Speaker E:

And Todd.

Speaker E:

Shout out to Todd.

Speaker E:

Because, yes, you know, by the grace of God, we're here today because we're.

Speaker E:

We're holding the mantle for.

Speaker E:

For Todd.

Speaker A:

You're fast, fretless.

Speaker D:

Let's come back off of your trip soon, Todd.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker A:

He's tripping balls.

Speaker F:

If.

Speaker F:

If Corey's still.

Speaker F:

If Corey's still listening.

Speaker F:

I have a request for Moontan on the next Hoser Rock hour.

Speaker E:

Oh, I think that one's already in the bag.

Speaker E:

But next week, right?

Speaker D:

The next.

Speaker F:

Next recording.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker F:

Yeah, next.

Speaker F:

Next one.

About your hosts

Sean McGinity

Profile picture for Sean McGinity
Hi, I am Sean "SeanGeek" McGinity. And I am a geek. For me, the definition of the word geek comes from liking something so much, that I deep dive into it. Not just consuming it... but becoming it. I "geek out". Everything started with comics. I read them and studied them with a fine eye, and then started making my own. Since then, I have "geeked out" on movies (Star Wars The Evil WIthin, Hurt), music writing, recording, and performing (The Classic Embers and Dome), writing (the Symka comic and the upcoming Intuitives novel), and now... this Podcast.

Todd McGinity

Profile picture for Todd McGinity
Hey guys, SeanGeek here. Just to be clear, this is me geeking out on Todd "FastFretFingers" McGinity here. Todd is the GOAT. My brother is an established musician, mastering the Fretboard with a blistering discipline. If there was a guitar style, tone, pitch... Todd would find a way to replicate it. From his early days mastering Van Halen and Rush, his musical palate has expanded with forays into classical and flamenco, hard rock, blues and pop. From live performances to learning the recording process, when it comes to music, he has done it all.

Karen Bee

A lover of stories, beer, and cats, and a master of none. Catch me talking to Geek Boy every so often for the latest comic book TV show or movie, Star Wars, board games and other things cool. Hear me give my two cents, relate them to other things I know, and make other recommendations!
